Santa Cruz Pool House

The project, a new pool house and renovation of the main house in Santa Cruz, CA, was an opportunity to create a seamless plan, connecting the two residences with the outdoor space. The building forms frame the tropical landscape and provide a backdrop for the pool with a heat-collecting concrete block wall. The new copper fascia relates to copper details in the main house, suggesting that this series of spaces is part of a single, large assemblage. Rooftop solar hot water panels are integrated in the design of the new outbuilding and supported on a roof made of timbers recycled from an existing barn.
